Abbamariana carries water in its name, and it is also the name of the estate’s main spring. From there, and from the other springs, water reaches the historic stazzi, the cork oaks, the orchard and the vineyard, all of which live on Abbamariana water.
The vineyard sits on the hillside at 276 metres: a hectare and a half of vermentino, almost eight thousand vines planted in 2006 and 2007, bush-trained and on trellis, on granite. Around it the estate stretches over more than fifty hectares of pasture and cork oaks, with rock breaking through the ground. Lake Liscia is in view from the rows, and Mount Limbara rises to the south-west. Wind, the gap between day and night temperatures, the lake, the exposure and the rocks together make a microclimate of its own.
Vermentino reached Sardinia at the end of the nineteenth century, from the Iberian peninsula by way of Corsica, and found its ideal ground in the weathered granite of Gallura.
